Guide on how to provision BLE for Aruba AP
System Requirements:
- Aruba Access Point with BLE Capability including Aruba 500 and 600 series APs
- ArubaOS 8.10.0.x or later
- MOTOTRBO Radios with ‘Motorola Indoor Tracking’ License (HKVN4432A)
Steps
- Firstly, in order to configure Aruba APs, you must be connected to the network via Aruba Cloud Central, an app inside of HPE Greenlake.
- Once downloaded, in Aruba Cloud Central, navigate to your desired Group. The BLE settings are per group, these will likely be set on a per site or per wing basis.
- Inside the group, navigate to Devices in the left hand menu
-
You will be presented with all APs in the group, navigate to Config in the top right
- Select IoT from the list of settings
- On this page, there are two Profiles required to be setup, select the plus icon on the IoT Radio Profiles tab to create a new Radio Profile.
- Fill this form in with the below items. NOTE: The Tx Power will vary depending on the area and strength of the AP.
- Click ‘Save Settings’, and once redirected back to IoT page, ensure Profile is enabled, if not click the wifi symbol and wait to allow it to Enable.
-
Next, further down the page, click the plus icon under BLE Beacon Service Profiles
-
In this page, we will be setting the BLE settings for the APs, Ensure Advertising format is iBeacon and interval is set to 900ms.
The UUID can be anything that fits the format, you can use the Profile Identifier however note that this UUID will be the same for all APs in the group.
Set the Major range to 5 and the Minor range to 101-(100 + n), where n is the number of APs in the group. I.e. if there were 3 APs in the group the Minor Range would be 101-103
- Click ‘Save Settings’ to complete.
- You may need to restart the APs in order to see the BLE iBeacons with the BeaconSet App
