Teldio Edge Gateway PBX Integrations

An overview about how the Teldio Edge Gateway works with phone systems

The Teldio Edge Gateway (TEG) has the ability to connect to phone systems to make and receive phone calls. The TEG can connect to PBXs and Internet Telephony Serivce Providers (ITSPs) that support SIP trunking. The TEG can also communicate with Analog lines via a Teldio provided Analog to SIP converter.

This article covers general information about how the TEG works with IP PBX systems.

How it Works:

The TEG would have a static IP that is able to communicate with the customer's IP PBX and the TEG's IP address would be treated as a SIP peer. In the IP PBX, the customer would either:

  • Set up a SIP trunk with a call route to direct calls to the TEG
  • Set up a SIP extension and allow it to register with the TEG's IP

When one of those extensions are dialed, then the call route or the SIP extension(s) would send the call to the TEG as a SIP Invite.

If the TEG is set up to dial out to a number (for Phone Alerts) the TEG would send a SIP invite to the IP address of the SIP Trunk to initiate the call.

Supported IP PBX Systems:

The TEG has been tested and works with the following IP PBX systems. However, other PBXs that support SIP Trunking may also be compatible

  • Cisco Call Manager
  • RingCentral
  • ShoreTel
  • Avaya
  • 3CX

Basic PBX Requirements:

  • Offer and accept codec of PCMU or PCMA (G.711U or G.711A)
  • Support  INFO, UPDATE and REFER methods
  • Support for early sessions, provisional responses, early media, caller preferences and session timers supported
  • Support for TCP and UDP over IPv4 or IPv6

Alternatives to IP PBX:

If an IP PBX that supports SIP Trunking is not avaialbe, then the options are:

  • Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP):
    • Teldio highly recommends les.net as the ITSP option as it has been tested with the TEG.
    • The TEG will require an Internet connection
  • Analog Lines
    • Analog lines can be POTS lines or lines provided off of an Analog PBX
    • Teldio's Analog to SIP Gateway is required.
