Starting September 30, 2024, Google Workspace accounts will no longer support third-party apps, or devices that rely on sign-in with only a username and password. To maintain Google mail access for the Teldio Edge Gateway (TEG), an app password must be generated.
An app password is a 16-digit passcode that gives devices permission to access your Google Account. App passwords can ONLY be used with accounts that have 2-Step Verification enabled.
IMAP modules using username/password login credentials will stop working after September 30, 2024 and must be updated to use app passwords. This document details the steps required to carry out this process.
STEP 1: Ensure IMAP access is enabled in your Gmail account settings
- Sign in to your Gmail account by using a browser that is supported (Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari).
- Choose or click the gear icon on the top right.
- Choose Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- Select Enable IMAP, and then choose Save Changes.
STEP 2: Enable Two-factor authentication
- Open your Google Account.
- In the navigation panel, select Security.
- Under “How you sign in to Google,” select 2-Step Verification > Get started.
- Follow the on-screen steps.
NOTE: If you use an account through your work, school, or other group, these steps might not work. If you can’t set up 2-Step Verification, contact your administrator for help.
STEP 3: Generate an App password for the Gateway
- Navigate to Create and manage your app passwords
- Generate an app password specifically for the TEG.
STEP 4: Update/Set up the IMAP module
Follow the steps in the guide linked below, use the app password generated in Step 3 instead of your Gmail account password.
